It was a pleasure having Richard with us as a freelance concept artist on Lone Echo. He has a very strong research and ideation process that allowed him to rapidly explore lots of loose ideas quickly, efficiently honing in on some really compelling designs for various vehicles, props, and environments for the game.
His incorporation of 3D conceptual blockouts as a base for more detailed sketches was a huge help as well, and we were thrilled to find how closely his process mirrored our own. For any platform, but particularly given the challenges of user interaction in a VR game such as ours, being able to quickly drop 3D roughs of any of his concepts directly into game for testing, resulted in concept designs that not only looked aesthetically compelling, but also gave us fully game integrated blockouts, addressing gameplay, navigation, and ergonomic concerns in one go.
On top of his high quality work, Richard's communication and responsiveness to feedback was always excellent -- I would happily recommend Richard, and look forward to working with him on future projects at Ready At Dawn!

Richard has been great to work with!
His skills in both 2d and 3d software allowed for not only fast turnaround, but also gave us the ability to get his assets tested in game quickly. If iterations were needed, he was quick to make changes that reflected a clear understanding of the art direction we were going for.
As a freelancer, Richard was able to produce original designs that helped influence many decisions and aesthetic choices going forward from vehicle design to props, as well as entire environment set pieces. I very much enjoyed working with you, and I hope we work together again!

Richard has worked for Guerrilla Games as Concept Designer in the period between December 2011 and December 2014. During this period he has been working on concept design for the environments of Killzone shadow fall and on different aspects of Guerrilla’s recently announced game Horizon. During this period I have been his direct colleague and art-director.
While at Guerrilla Games he has shown a great variety of knowledge and skills, both as a concept designer and as a game developer in general.
He has a keen sense of product, architectural and graphical design and also insights into construction and engineering that have led to fresh, original ideas and concepts that made a great impact on our games.

Richard est un artiste plein d'enthousiasme et de talent. Il a su démontrer une grande capacité d’adaptation à des styles artistiques différents, tout en maintenant un apprentissage technique soutenu et marqué. Mais selon moi, ses plus grandes compétences sont sa grande intelligence créative ainsi que son sens aiguisé de la structure narrative d’une image. Richard apprécie réellement faire un travail de recherche artistique étendu avant de débuter une nouvelle image ; ce qui est à mon avis un atout indispensable. D’ailleurs, il a une aisance à produire rapidement plusieurs directions pour une même illustration, ce qui facilite grandement le travail de son directeur artistique quand vient le temps de choisir la meilleur piste à exploiter.
Richard est de nature calme et diplomate, ce qui en fait un excellent joueur d’équipe ainsi qu’un bon allier durant les moments plus durs. Je suis très satisfait du travail qu’il a accompli sur Deus Ex : Human Revolution, et j’espère pouvoir travailler avec lui de nouveau.
